Just managed to offload some wheels, and pick up a new 4-piston wilwood kit for the Rabbit!
Also, dropping the 16v block off at a machine shop after the Thanksgiving weekend to get checked over thoroughly, then next step after December payday on the 10th is forged internals...then it all starts coming together.
All I need to source now is a trans and differential, a few brake bits for the rear, and start putting the interior back together while saving funds for the rest of the motor. So hyped!

I didn't even know they made a 4 piston kit for the Mk1 Rabbit. Will they fit with your current wheel/tire setup or will you need to change it?

Neat. What are the plans for the 16v?

Here I was thinking I was all cool stepping up to the dual piston calipers on my DSM and along comes this guy with 4-pistons on a Rabbit. Neat!

hahaha. At least you’ve got a DSM though! Those are rad!

Cams, chip, lysholm supercharger...trying for around 250whp

Supposedly they clear 14” p-slots with a 5mm spacer...he hasn’t test fit with teardrops. I can’t remember the offset on p-slots and haven’t bothered looking it up.
Plan is to scoop some 15x8 work equips or maybe something else if those sell before I get cash though, and run semi-slicks in the summer. The current wheels have winter rubber on them.

Sweet :) What fuel system are you running?

Right now, just the stock MK3 injectors/rail/pump, since it still has the ABA. Haven’t determined what I’ll need for the 16v yet. This is my first full-on engine build (from a bare block on up!), so I’m figuring it out with a great deal of help as I go!

Going to need injectors for sure, and likely pump! I’ve got 1.8t injectors on my N/A 16V and nearly maxed them out, haha. What are you thinking of doing for trans and differential?

Yeah, I’m sure I’ll need something beefier, just haven’t gotten there yet.
Trans I’m working on now - I want to make sure it holds at least 300ft-lbs in case I build it up more later, and it’ll be a 5-speed. Diesel 5th probably because I’ll be driving it to work in the warmer weather.
Diff will probably be a quaife, they make pretty legit stuff. I’ve had peloquin recommended to me as well, but not sure yet what the possible advantages/disadvantages might be.

I wouldn’t spend too much time messing with an 020 if you’re looking to hold that kind of power reliably. ~250ft-lbs is a safe-ish limit for that trans. My brother has stripped teeth with a stock 16V... I’ve got a diesel 5th in mine and it’s great on the highway, kinda sucks around town or on track though.
I’ve got a Peloquin, and it does well for being a torsen style diff. If I did it again I’d probably do a Wavetrac. Once I get one tire spinning in a corner the car just goes straight, a Wavetrac would help prevent that to some extent.

Yeah, I have an 020 now and have been advised to get something a bit stronger, haha. I won’t be tracking the car much so a diesel 5th is probably good for my purposes. I just want it to be wicked quick on the street and generally fun, haha.
I’ll have to look into that; thanks for the info. I’ve driven newer cars (mk6 GTI) with a wavetrac and liked it, but I haven’t had the time to look into the actual differences between peloquin, wavetrac, and quaife.

Even with my ~50hp gain over stock, it’s a ton of fun even in my heavier Mk2, haha.
Be sure to post up some videos when you get it going with the new setup!

For sure. Even at all of 110hp at the crank with the current setup the car is a riot, it’ll be downright terrifying with 250whp, haha.
Videos will definitely happen!
